What is Collagen? Why you should add it to your diet and how it can boost your health.

Let’s talk collagen and the benefits.

I’ve been sharing a lot about Vital Proteins and collagen on my Instagram lately. I’m pretty sure you may be tired of seeing my morning coffee, but I just can’t stop sharing this stuff! I also think these posts have left a lot of people scratching their heads! I’ve received a lot of questions, so I thought a blog post was the way to go!

What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It’s found in our skin, hair, nails, tendons, muscles, bones, and our digestive system. Sounds like a big deal, right? As we age, our bodies start producing less and we start to notice. Hello, wrinkles! You may have noticed collagen as an ingredient in some of your skin care products. That’s because it helps restore the skin’s moisture by improving the elasticity and vibrancy, but it’s actually absorbed better when you ingest it. So, start ingesting that collagen and benefit your entire bod!

More about the benefits

Not only is it good for you skin, but it also aids digestion. It helps protect and build the lining of our intestines and also helps absorb water to keep things moving along. Ingesting collagen also helps lubricate our joints and ligaments. This allows us to move more freely, without the stiffness. It’s even linked to the effective treatment of arthritis. Finally, this magic protein can even help boost your metabolism, by supporting lean muscles. Did I finally convince you to add it to your daily routine?

My favorite way to add collagen to my diet.

How to add collagen to your diet

Adding collagen to your diet is easy. It’s tasteless, so more than likely, you will not even notice it’s there. I start off my day by adding it to my coffee. It makes it frothy and oh so wonderful. To see more, head over to my Instagram stories. I’m usually sharing my morning routine there.

Once I started adding Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin to my coffee, I stopped using milk and sugar. I know what you are thinking, “WAIT, WHAT THE HECK IS BEEF GELATIN?!” Beef gelatin is an excellent source of collagen. One serving of Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin contains 17g of protein and is packed with amino acids. I also use the Collagen Peptides daily. The peptides dissolve in cold beverages, so I add a scoop to my water after every workout. Finally, I love boosting my smoothies with the Vanilla Collagen Peptides. Yum! It’s so easy to a collagen to your diet! Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I reached out to Vital Proteins because I knew their products were the best. They are sustainably produced from grass-fed, pasture raised cows. This is a requirement in my home. If you don’t know why, I encourage you to do some research on the subject! These products were gifted to me, but I was not required to share.

They do have marine collagen options. That’s still animal protein, but that’s as close as you can get with Vital Proteins. I’ll have to research and see if I can find any plant-based options!

So which one do you think is the best? I feel like I could certainly use some.

I use all three, but the collagen peptides are great starters because they can be mixed with hot or cold beverages!
